Colonial Heights, October 1, 2007: HCA Richmond Health System today opened its newest Outpatient Imaging Center, Appomattox Imaging, at 930 South Avenue in Colonial Heights.  The 7,000 square foot facility, which is located in the space formerly occupied by American Family Fitness in the Southpark Mall corridor, offers the very latest in diagnostic imaging technology.

“We are excited about the opening of the Appomattox Imaging Center in Colonial Heights.  With this new, modern, state-of-the-art facility, we are enhancing imaging services offered to area residents by providing a new choice for convenient access to outpatient imaging services,” said Elwood “Bernie” Boone, CEO of nearby HCA facility John Randolph Medical Center.

The center offers a new Phillips 64 slice CT, the only 64-slice CT scanner currently in the Tri-Cities area. This technology offers the fastest and most powerful CT scanner now available, which allows the staff to acquire images on patients in as few as 5 seconds.

“This provides our patients with quick and accurate scans, especially for the coronary arteries; and the equipment is able to accommodate patients with all types of physical demands,” said center manager Donny Bodenhamer.

Appomattox Imaging also offers diagnostic X-ray, ultrasound, digital mammography; which is the newest generation of mammography imaging now available, and MRI.  The 1.5 Tesla MRI offers the ability to expand services for procedures such as Breast MRI.

Physicians can access images from their offices, in the HCA hospitals or other off-site locations through PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System). This allows for faster diagnostics and the ability for physicians to consult on cases.

Appomattox Imaging is open Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm with a Board Certified Radiologist on-site at all times.
